Volunteer with us

We hope that everyone visiting the Rec - be they human, animal, bird or insect - can have an enjoyable and rewarding time. As a volunteer, can you help us make it even better?  It's good fun, an opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, and maybe share knowledge and skills. 

Through the year, many different groups lend a hand, often on special projects. Scouts, university students, geocachers and Southampton GoodGym have all supported the Friends in different ways,  Together all our volunteers help us to keep the Rec a great place to visit, and an important haven for wildlife.

• The Gardening group meet on alternate Saturday and Sunday mornings from Spring to Autumn.  Beyond routine weeding and tidying, every season sees new ventures with opportunity for planning and planting.  More details here.
• Nature Kids meet on the first Saturday, through the warmer months. Any assistance with running activities - arty, crafty, sporty or eco-centric - is always welcome. All children will be accompanies by a parent or carer, so DBS (though welcome) isn't required. Please get in touch with Tony Ridley via our general email and we'll pass on your message. 
• Lift & Shift Even if you have decidely un-green fingers but enjoy posing with a wheelbarrow and a broom, you're just the folks we need for our occasional clear-up sessions. When these are coming up, you'll find dates on the events page. 
• Make n Mend projects.  Occasionally we need something either custom-made or repaired, requiring an extra pair of hands and eyes.  Just ;let us know!
